Society for Protection of Working and Street Children

SPWSC was established in Tehran, Iran in 2002 to full fill the needs of so-called Tehran Street-children. The help covers not only Tehran but
also its suburbs. Urban development, family economic instability,
family violence, disintegration, unemployment and other socio-economic and political problems in different countries and cities within a country have forced the families and their children to migrate to other countries and cities.

It is the children who have mostly become the victims of these migrations. Such children have been experiencing different forms of dangers by working and spending most of their time in the streets. SPWSC is an association established to prevent more children of this kind from reaching the streets by providing them with the suggested programs.

We will be happy to receive your financial and voluntary help consisting of:

1. Giving various services to deprived children in "Khan-e Mehr" in
Agh Tapeh located in Karadj borders, Sar Asiyab in Malard(in Karadj) and Hesarak(in Karadj).

2. Teaching the children at Primary and Guidance(Secondary) levels, teaching professional and technical skills, such as hairdressing, tailoring, handicrafts, welding, computer and also other skills including living skills.

3. Giving educational help to children, whom we cannot see in the streets such as those working in cemeteries(Imamzadeh Mohammad Cemetery in Hesarak) washing the graves for the people. Doing heavy jobs and working in glass workshops. Also children in the street selling flowers and fortune-telling papers, finding things in the garbage cans to sell or eat. Your help gives the association the opportunity to assist these children who are mostly afghan refugees to show them just a little bit of the beauty of the world of childhood.

4. Providing the construction materials to enable the Professional Educational Centre No.2 in Agh Tapeh to complete the constructional project which is in procession.

5. Covering 600 children to purchase stationary, school bags and books under the supervision of SPWSC.

6. Assisting in providing the children's nourishment would be appreciated since our children need to receive daily free nourishment based on standard principles.

Being unwanted, unloved,
forgotten  by  everybody ,
is a much greater hunger,
a much  greater  poverty
than the person who
has nothing to eat.

The Rights of the Child

Preservation of Identity

Children have the right to an identity- an official record of who they are; thus, the birth of a child should be recorded and registered with the Government as soon as possible.

Survival and Development

Children have the right to live.  Governments are responsible for making sure every child grows up healthy.

Definition of the Child

The Convention defines a 'child' as a person below age 18, unless the laws of a particular country set a younger age limit.

Non-discrimination

The Convention applies to all children, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, family status, or ability.  Governments are responsible for ensuring children are protected from any form of discrimination.

Best interests of the Child

With regard to decisions that affect a child, his/her best interests should be taken into consideration.  This provision extends to legal and administrative decisions.  When parents, elected officials, and other adults make decisions, they should think about what impact their choices and actions will have on children.
